Is Gordon Brown warming towards the EU?

Am I right in thinking there is a certain softening in Gordon Brown’s attitude towards Europe.  The big beast who kept us out of the euro and sat glumly as Tony Blair held centre stage is now cosying up to Nicolas Sarkozy and even photographed with a smile while in Brussels.  Of course one must give credit to Sarkozy who butters Brown’s ego with praise.  When our prime minister has so few friends at home, holding forth in the G20 and in the EU Council must be a pleasure.  And familiarity with his colleagues abroad also seems to have mellowed his approach.  No longer is he lecturing and alienating his audience.
